If you are working in this role, and are eligible, you can apply for residence after working in New Zealand for 2 years. When you apply, you must be paid at least NZD $35.00 an hour (the 2025 median wage).

For 24 out of the 30 months before you apply, you must have been paid at least the median wage. You can use the median wage rate in place at the start of your 24 months — this may be different to the current median wage. You may need to meet a different median wage rate if you change job or your pay decreases. You need to be working with an employer and at a site listed on the ‘New Zealand approved animal products halal premises (excluding dairy) under the Animal Products Notice’ (administered by the Ministry for Primary Industries).
